Outside Birds

I feed my outside birds all year round. They have gotten so use to me or they know I am bringing goodies they don’t even fly away. I always have my dogs out when I am outside . The birds don’t fly away them ether. My dogs live with Sasha the bird so the outside birds figured out they don’t bother them and they keep cats out the yard.

We have had a mild winter that is until 2 weeks ago. We had a wind storm and there were so many power outages and I was one of those households that lost power. I had to send Sasha the bird away to my son’s house because she is a African Grey and the cold would kill her. I missed her and her chattiness so much. I had no power water or heat for four days. It was a good thing I had four dogs to snuggle with.Well I got my power ,water and heat back on and Sasha came back home and then we get a March snow storm. Almost 2 feet of snow , more wind and temps 0 degrees with wind chill.I had to make sure my outside birds had plenty to eat because it was a hard storm to live though. The birds see me walking though the snow with all the goodies and stay where they are because they are not missing out. So I fill the feeders, and the suet cage and throw unsalted peanuts in shells on the ground for the blue Jays. (I love watching them grab and go) and walk away. Time for taking some pictures. Here are some of the pictures I took of my outside birds during our 3 day snowstorm.

Winter Storm and Etc…

I live in the area where we were hit by the snow storm in Western , NY. We were not hit as hard as a couple of towns that got 64 inches in 24 hours but it still was a lot of snow for a 24 hour period. We are to get pounded with more snow tomorrow. But I have to say it is beautiful and I have a great big window in the warm to enjoy the view!

About a week before the storm I took this picture because I thought the moon threw the trees looked awesome

.Last but not least I was at a friends house today and I was looking out his balcony doors and saw this little chubby Robin and had to take it’s picture. This little lovely has been eating well. My friend said his neighbor has a bird feeder at the bottom branches of this tree.

What is this plant?

I have this  plant near my house. I have no idea what it is. If anyone knows please let me know. It grows very aggressively. It is pretty in the fall when it blooms and when the leaves change.

Close up

The stalks are woody in the winter time. Yes you see a dog it is BabyGirl.

The Sky

This is a Hosta s my sister gave me 2 of them. I couldn’t remember the name so I took this picture to ask her the name again. When I looked at the picture on my computer I noticed how beautiful the sky was day before yesterday.

Blooms

I am almost finished painting and am I glad because my knees and hips are all wore out. The last couple days I kept thinking how did I do this for a living and on big houses. I believe this will be the last time I will be painting any large structure or at least one that you need a ladder for. I just have some touch up to do then on to the porches. I am trying to get this all done before the snow fly’s again. My garden has been a little neglected but I am confident I can tidy it all up after a little rest. My neighbor Korie’s  puppy Mak got free and he always runs to my house. This time I wasn’t home and he managed to explore all threw my tomato garden. They are a little tipped over but no real damage done. This little 5 month old puppy is 45 lbs! During one of my breaks while painting I went threw and checked to see if any picking was in order and sure enough I had cucumbers ready ! I picked 17 of them. The picture doesn’t show 17 because I ate a couple. I also picked 2 onions but I ate one of them, Also 3 tomatoes but I ate them. I made a cucumber, tomato, onion  salad.

My Stargazer Lillys made their appearance

My Rose of Sharon has just started to bloom. The added bonus is my neighbor brought me over a bunch of slips to root of all colors. I can’t wait to get them planted and on their way.

Last year I was not able to get pictures of all the color changes of my Quick Fire Hydrangea. This year I made sure I did. (on a painting break lol)

                                                                                                                                  Spring

                                                                                                                       Mid- Summer

                                                                                                                              NOW

My sister picked this bush for me and I think it is a great pick!

It’s Been Awhile…

It’s been awhile since I have posted anything and I am sorry for this as I do enjoy blogging. We have been having a pretty tough winter here and have been hiding out in the house. Sense the Temp has been so cold here my pups have been house bound. When I did take them outside we didn’t stay out very long as frostbite was a very real threat. Puppy paws and ears  are too important to take the chance. Yesterday we had yet another snow storm and I had to go out in it. Unavoidable.         I rode with my Neighbor who has the all wheel drive because my car is two-wheel drive and it is staying in the driveway.     I will wait until the snow melts to take it out! Right now I am not in shape to be digging out a car. Today we went out for a little while and it is still so cold and the freezing wind did not help at all. But we took a little walk and managed to trek to the mailbox. We all got some needed excersize.

I can’t wait for spring and will be so glad to have something to blog about !

I’m Back !

Finally I have a computer again! A present from my son. That was a little hard all those months with just a Kindle Fire. The other way I also looked at it was I was just glad I had a way online. I did have to stop a lot of things I like to do. That is all over now. I’ll tell ya I can go threw a lot of computers. The last one died because of a electrical fire. The computer and electric wires were the only casulties. Electric repaired and computer replaced I’m all good. I was just thankful I noticed the fire before it really became a big problem.

This past summer Midnight knocked over one of my little yard tables and this is what was attached to it

My son taught me how to make stuffed grape leaves. They are so good.

I have a little mini slow cooker so I also have been making from scratch chicken soup.

My Ouick Fire Hydrangea started out this spring Like this

Summertime it transformed into this

It then proceeded to change color to pink blooms. That was about the time to much stuff was going on and I wasn’t doing much picture taken. I hope to get all the stages starting next spring.

My sister had a Rose bush she didn’t want any more so I brought it home and planted it. It bloomed this year

Image

My Lilly’s did great . I have sense transplanted the to a new flower bed in the back yard. all total 15 Lillies. They had babies. I think it is going to look so awsome. I am letting the wild strawberries take over in those beds for the bunnies as I like to watch them.

Image

The birds have caught on that cats don’t come around my yard so they have made nests in my Junipers.

Image

Baby birds did great because no cats around to eat them during that crucial time they are on the ground learning to fly.

My neighbors cat waits for the moment in his yard. He doesn.t dare come into mine because he knows BabyGirl and Midnight guard their yard. Mr. Whiskers found that out the hard way.

Of course Midnight and BabyGirl are working as a team covering all the bases on look out.

Exploring our Little part of the World

We   went on the hike down the creek that ended with waterfalls. I gave the ending away on my Wordless Wednesday. I just had to post the pick of BabyGirl and Midnight looking at them when we first arrived there at the falls.

The hike there was just awesome and we all had a great time. It was about 1  1/2 miles up the creek to the falls. We rested on a ledge by the falls and had our lunch and while everyone else was in the heat we had Mother Natures air conditioning. We started out about 11 am and ended at 4:30 pm for the entire hike and spending time at the falls.  I discovered Midnight could swim as some parts of the creek were deep enough for swimming and of coarse catching little fish and chasing floating sticks.  (next blog will be about the sticks. I didn’t post some pictures involving sticks because that is a whole other blog to write )

Wordless Wednesday

Holy Cow is it windy here!

I took BabyGirl and Midnight out to play earlier today even though it was windy. I live on top of a hill so we really get strong winds. Today a newspaper was flying in the wind and it followed BabyGirl then she turned around saw it and dodged it. It was so funny. They had a great time outside and came in to nap.

I look out the window a while later and this is what I saw. Not only was my picnic table making it’s way threw the yard but my hummingbird feeder was emptied by the wind not the birds.

I went to the back door to take the above picture and I noticed more of my stuff that had been thrown around by the wind. This grill is not light and yet the wind managed to move it! The thing  in between my grills is a party tent I was going to put up for shade in the yard. It has metal frame but I am now glad I hadn’t gotten around to put it up yet as it probably would have ended up in the corn field lol .
